Let’s explain how...The science bit: There are three layers in every hair that make up the ‘hair shaft’. The cuticle is the outer layer and is responsible for protecting the inner layers from damage. The colour and texture part of the hair originates in the cortex in the middle of the shaft which contains all the bonds. The integrity of each hair shaft is compromised when bonds are broken, whether by chemicals, thermal, mechanical styling or environmental factors.
